She was born in Schulenburg to Wesley Janacek Sr. and Angelina Lebeda Janacek. She graduated from Schulenburg High School in 1959 with her high school sweetheart, Leo “Sonny” Barta Jr. They were married the following year on Oct. 1, 1960 in Schulenburg. They were the owners of Barta Electric Inc. in Baytown. She was a member of St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church of Highlands. Vera enjoyed going to the casinos and attending games for the Astros, Texans and the Rockets. She loved spending time with her family and was affectionately known as “Memaw” by her grandchildren. Vera will be dearly missed by all who knew her.She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 50 years, Leo “Sonny” Barta Jr.; parents, Wesley Sr. and Angelina Janacek; brother, Edwin Janacek and wife Patsy; sister, Marian Schimcek and husband Hilton; and brother-in-law, Errol Campbell.Vera is survived by her daughters, Tammie Barta, and Terri Hotchkiss and husband Sammy; grandchildren, Ryan Hotchkiss and wife Kim, Tiffany McCain and husband Kyle, and Heather Hotchkiss; one future great-grandson; sister, Alice Campbell; brother, Wesley Janacek Jr. and wife Linda; furry friend, Bebe; and a host of extended relatives and friends.A visitation for family and friends was on Thursday, June 15, 2017 from 5 to 8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m .at Sterling White Funeral Home in Highlands.Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. on Friday, June 16 at St. Jude Thaddeus Catholic Church in Highlands. Born in Laurens County, he was a son of the late Joseph Preston “JP” and Jessie Mitchell Abrams. He was an Associate member of Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church and the Men’s Bible Sunday School Class. He was a past member of Poplar Springs Baptist Church and was a veteran of the US Army Reserves. He was a graduate of Upper Iowa University, where he earned a BA Degree. Mr. Abrams retired from Monsanto after 36 years of service. He was a member of the Ware Shoals Catfish Feastival Board of Directors, and was an active and involved volunteer in any Ware Shoals community activity. He was a member of the RE/Water Greenville SC, committee serving to monitor the needs and quality of the Reedy River Water Shed. Mr. Abrams was a member of the Laurens County Cruise Club and was an avid outdoors man who enjoyed fishing, boating and golf. He was twice married, first to the late Polly Owens Abrams.Surviving, in addition to his loving wife of the home, are: his son, Keith (Sara) Abrams of Laurens; his daughter, Kimberly (Dale) Langley of El Dorado, AR; three brothers, Joseph Preston (Pat) Abrams, Jr. of Ware Shoals, John Thomas Abrams, Sr. of Laurens, and James (Frankie) Abrams of Spartanburg; his sister-in-law, Betty Abrams of Greenwood; and two grandchildren, Renee (Christopher) Roberson and Jessica Langley, both of El Dorado AR. He was predeceased by a brother, Clarence Abrams.Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, June 16, 2017 at Ware Shoals First Presbyterian Church, with Rev. Wayne Wicker, Rev. John T. Abrams, Jr., and Rev. George Leagans officiating. Burial will follow in Poplar Springs Baptist Church Cemetery.The family is at the home and will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Parker-White Funeral Home. Born in Milford on May 27, 1960, he was the son of the late Frank and Victoria B. Johnson.Tom was a graduate of Foran High School and Johnson and Wales University, with a degree in Culinary Arts. He was a longtime employee of the West Haven Board of Education and a devoted fan of the New York Mets and Minnesota Vikings.A loyal friend, he was always willing to help someone in need. Fondly known as “Uncle T”, Tom adored his nieces. He had a special love for his family, rock music, and sports, which led him to become an avid reader and collector of sports and rock memorabilia.Tom was the beloved brother of Victoria-Jo (Joseph) Iuteri, Donna (Jack) Buckley, and Frank (Lynne) Johnson; loving uncle to Jennifer (Kevin Bowerman) Iuteri, Lindsay, Shannon and Jamie Buckley, and Monica, Holly and Corinne Johnson. He will never be forgotten.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, March 27, 2017 at 1 p.m. at St. Agnes Church, 400 Merwin Ave., Milford, CT (MEET DIRECTLY AT CHURCH).
